What will this course do for you?

What will I learn?

Lower back pain is the leading cause of years living with disability and remains a significant global public health concern. Low back pain in 2017 was estimated to be about 7.5% of the global population, affecting around 577.0 million people worldwide. Due to the complex nature of the anatomy and biomechanics of the back and spine, the cause of LBP is varied and often poorly diagnosed. It has been suggested that between 70%-97% of LBP are diagnosed as “non-specific” or “miscellaneous” where the aetiology remains unknown. The reason for this is believed to be a result of poor diagnosis and limited expertise of the clinician. This course starts by introducing you to the causes of acute and chronic low back pain before going through a step-by-step examination of the low back. This will give you greater understanding as to what may be causing back pain and will lay the foundation for you to achieve the objectives set out below.

  • The prevalence of non-specific lower back pain.

  • How the quality of sleep and anxiety will affect acute and chronic low back pain.
