Course content

Acupuncture has a long history of helping athletes perform to their optimal ability. As seen in the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics acupuncture was used to help athletes reach the best possible condition pre-Olympic and pre-event, as well as helping them recover faster and feel better following rugged competition. I have spent the past decade undertaking research, publishing research articles, presenting at conferences and perfecting the use of acupuncture aimed at enhancing sports performance.

The main area that acupuncture is utilised in enhancing human performance during or following exercise includes improving muscle strength, reducing delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS), reducing lactate acid, and heart rate reduction following exercise. Acupuncture allows athletes to train harder and recover quickly in preparation for their next bout of training or competition.

Within these lessons, I will share my clinical experience and research findings and allow you to develop your acupuncture skills to allow you to take competitive and elite athletes to the next level. This includes reducing marathon or ironman times by as much as 20-30 minutes, and outlaw by as much as 1 hour and 30 minutes. You will discover the benefits of acupuncture in enhancing performance in a range of sports including boxing, tennis, athletics, cycling, swimming, running, cross fit and other sports.

Includes a 30 minute 1 to 1 session

Police Office

Brett Wilts, Duathlon athlete

Steve Bailey at the Long Eaton Foot Knee and Back Clinic was recommended to me by a fellow athlete. At the time I was plagued with a reoccurring injury that was hampering my progress. The treatment I receive from Steve has helped me stay injury free for longer periods and when those injuries do occur, Steve has drastically improved my rate of recovery and ensured that may training has remained consistent and my improvements significant. My performances progress has seen an elevation to a Great Britain Age Group standard, taking me to World and European Championships. The treatments offered vary however I have become an advocate of acupuncture and the benefits in promoting healing, recovery and performance enhancement. When I walk out of the clinic, I feel refreshed, revitalised and confident that the treatment I have just received has readied me for the next training session or race.

Police Officer

John Marshall, Ironman triathlon athlete.

I decided to enter the Outlaw triathlon in Nottingham. I had already completed an Ironman before but this time I wanted to "compete". I wanted to push myself to the limits and beyond. I sat down and spoke with Steve about my goals, and he was excited by them and wanted to help me achieve them. Steve suggested acupuncture and explained the theory and benefits. I was excited and trust Steve, so we got started. At first, I thought needles?? No way this can't work...surely. Well after regular acupuncture sessions with Steve I started to notice an improvement. And that was in my recovery. I was finding that my body would recover faster and more efficiently from training sessions allowing me to train more regularly and at the same time keeping the fatigue in my body down and the risk of injury to a minimum. At the end of the course of treatment with Steve I knocked an hour and thirty minutes off my Ironman PB time. I am aware of the benefits of acupuncture and have felt them first-hand from a sports performance point of view, but I am also aware from speaking to others that I have referred to Steve there are a number of other reasons that acupuncture can be used for and the success stories I have heard excite me".

Sports Therapist

Suzy Hawkins

Hi Steve, Just wanted to thank you. I used those points you suggest all week on my husband, and today my husband ran an 11-minute personal best. He hasn't run a marathon since he was in his mid 30s and is now in his mid 40s, so a PB at all was unlikely. Thanks for that.
